A slight lie-in afforded a lovely view of Lake Wanaka before we left it behind us for the Haast Highway.

The Blue Pools were a sight to see

heading over a suspended bridge and being caterpaulted by a bouncing Matt we reached the pools.

The rock towers created by travellers for luck adorned the beach, now added to by my own creation.

As the heat from the sun increased and spread its reach we saw and felt the hiss from the surrounding landscape.

The Fantail waterfall trickled down to the crystal clear river

and Nights Point showed us what she was made of.

Bruce Bay, driftwood adorned, visualised the divide between life and death.  Unlike so many of the beaches we've seen I felt strangely empty as we passed through.  Possibly the relative lack of colour or just the resemblance to bones in a sacred sight.

Making our way through Fox Glacier and Franz Josef we find Lake Mapourika and our campsite for the night.  The lake is absolutely stunning, a calm and mirror-like quality reflects the dimming sky as Matt says "I'm going to have an early swim tomorrow"...
