So maybe joining the sleeping bags was a bad idea! During a double turn over point in the night one of the zips split leaving us tangled and awake us we desperately tried to get the thing un-hooked. It was also a freezing night, frost on the windscreen, and we never recovered from the rude awakening and cold rush of air to our extremities. Giving up on sleep way, way too early for my tastes we headed for Te Anau...
you can't be too grumpy with this to look at though.
Once in the town we quickly got ourselves organised, public showers, breakfast, laundry (wash), WIFI at library and laundry (dry). Now feeling slightly more human (Matt's feet were making headline news and my hair was now completely grease-proofed) we set off for Queenstown.
Queenstown was a problem for us because we both wanted to do various adrenaline activities but we'd also agreed that a number one priority was a helicopter ride above Franz Josef et al. Arrival at one of the Queenstown Activity information centres highlighted that our budget was not going to stretch to either white water rafting or Hydro-Atack (a personal favourite)
so we sloped out of down and on to Wanaka (both a little sad if we're honest).
Our final stop for the day was a Department of Conservation campsite at the head of Lake Wanaka but Lake Hawea to the right was still worth a mention.
