We had some major mileage to cover today in order to reach Taupo and ensure we'd make it to Auckland on time to hand the van back.  Leaving really early we decided to stop on route to sort brekkie but get some miles under our belt first.  Unfortunately, our plans were foiled by a truck which had run off one of the really steep and windy roads.  Blocked from going forward and going back would lose us even more time and money in fuel so we decided to wait it out for the tow truck to arrive.    We also had the company of another gentleman, Mr Flatulence.  This guy loved a chat but also running in parallel to his conversation were loud, reverberating trumps at about thirty second intervals.  We both took it in turns to retreat and have a childish giggle until the truck was moved and we said our farewells.

We'd made coffee for Mr Flatulence so once on our way again decided to just keep motoring up through Rangipo Desert and passed the volcanoes.

Lake Taupo eventually appeared in view and we headed in to Taupo, now starving, and keen for a mooch.

Food first and then the Taupo hot springs called.

We'd found a great free site for the night with public toilets and a beautiful stream running alongside.  Already fairly busy we found ourselves a quiet spot and whiled the evening away, chatting, having a wine or two and updating the blog.  Matt headed off to use the loo after dark and returned gasping for breath, the site was now fit to bursting with fellow campers which has a very negative effect on the long drop dunnies!  Oh well wild wees or extreme bladder control from now on then.
