Sorry to leave you in suspense, surprisingly (I know, all my rampant imagination) we made it through the night.  We actually turned down the showers, the carpet of human hair, leaves and soil was not appealing to my delicate nature after such a bad nights sleep and Matt merely used the dunny (shower/dunny combined) as a morning emergency situation.

Tearing off at very early doors we breathed a sigh of relief to be leaving.  There was something quite depressing about the Owen Lodge Tavern and all who sailed in her.

We headed up through Motueka, Takaka and along to Farewell Spit which, due to high tide we could only look at from Fossil beach or

from the top of Cape Farewell.

From here we headed to Wharariki beach, through a windy bush track suddenly opening out to this

and a further ten minutes down the track to this.  Miles of white, sandy and virtually deserted beach and steep dunes.

Running down a dune we finally reached the waters edge, stunning caves and fur seals hiding out.

Home for the night was at Collingood campsite, cheap, showers ahoy and kitchen facilities.  I rustled up a rather good sausage and egg fried rice, not bad for basic rations ;) and after washing up we hit the sack (rock and roll lifestyle!)  When we had left for the kitchen the site next door was empty but on return we had four English guys with their tent pitched and ready for a night on the town.  A few pleasantries passed, we left them to it and it wasn't until the early hours that we gave them any more thought.  Having enjoyed what Collingwood had to offer, not much I can tell you and predominantly beer, they returned laughing, talking and generally continuing their evening.  Whilst they did wake us, we just giggled, listened for a while and then went back to sleep.  It wasn't until Matt woke me and told me to be careful of the piles of sick did any negative thoughts pass my mind.  Sure enough three piles of sick highlighted my toilet route, Brits abroad huh!
