On the road at 6.30am, sadly we were leaving the Catlins but heading for a camping shop! A couple of hours later we cruised into Invercargill and one of the first free WIFI points we came to...MacDonalds. Obviously whilst there it would be rude not to avail oneself of a sausage and egg McMuffin, coffee and heat. Everything went like clockwork, first brekkie, then sleeping bag purchase, library for more WIFI and then food shop before we were back on the road and heading for Te Anau (near to Milford Sound).
Can't remember if I've mentioned previously but being in New Zealand, whilst totally a beautiful country and full of lovely people, it is like being transported back to the 80s. Music, fashion, vehicles and Internet access/quality is really really behind. In MacDs tapping our feet to In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins watching a teenager with Flock of Seagull hairstyle complete with neck scarf I really felt transported back in time. Unfortunately my face and body weren't transported so Matt is now stuck with just my mind lost in the 80s...poor man. Today will mainly be a travel and sort ourselves out day so on arrival in Te Anau we head straight for some public showers.
Whilst I was showering, literally 8 minutes on a timer, Matt pulled himself on old NZ bird.
Chores complete we drove 60k up the Milford Sound Road and settled by Walker Creek for more solitude.
We were both exhausted and eager to try out the new superduper sleeping bags, fingers crossed for a warmer night tonight.
