Can Tho, the Mekong Delta's biggest city and our base for a couple of days.  It is the perfect place for exploring the waterways and floating markets planned for the next day (separate blog) but on arrival it would be rude not to enjoy something that is cheaper than water in Vietnam, beer!  For under 30 pence you can enjoy a bottle of beer and just a glass of beer costs even less sometimes!

As we relaxed and watched the world go by, enjoying the city buzz (nothing to the forthcoming Ho Chi Minh mayhem due in a couple of days time), Can Tho was preparing for the Chinese New Year.  Lights, flags and flowers line the streets which is a sight to see.

Dinner was at a local spring roll restaurant, a slight variation on the norm with pickles and type of sausage.  We were the only westerners in there but obviously demonstrated amazing expertise in self building our rolls!  The locals were suitably impressed...not, one couple actually moved tables for fear of being stabbed by a chopstick.

Right outside our guesthouse was the night market where you can buy absolutely anything, if you needed it...

...and of course the giant statue of Ho Chi minh himself with Matt practicing for his presidential posting.

A perfect retreat from the chaos was at our guesthouse's rooftop, a fine place to watch the sun arrive or disappear for the day.
