A number of beaches and islands pepper Sihanoukville, boat loads of tourist head out to the likes of Koh Pos, Koh Russy and Koh Rong on whirlwind day trips, toes touching sand for minutes and then they're off again just long enough for a sand fly's lunch.  Both being beach people, and looking for some solitude, sun and swimming before heading to Siem Reap we decided to focus on Otres beach and who could blame us...

Took this photo for Mick and Kath, avid travellers and motor-homers, comes complete with solar panels, satellite and built for the Cambodian roads...prime spot on Otres beach!

Initially staying in Otres village away from the beach, an area consisting of a couple of guesthouses and five shops/bar/restaurants.  Almost every shop has a couple of tables which constitutes as a restaurant and they are able to supply pretty much anything you could be after.  One shack we entered was like the tardis, entering further and further into the back revealed an arsenal of alcohol that any major supermarket would have been proud of.  Mopeds scooted in and out day and night with backpackers storing up on slabs of beer and take away curry.  Our first accommodation was a little chalet, double with fan, which unfortunately had the sun beating down on the back wall all day so that, when you got back at the end of the day, was like a storage heater with no off switch.  You could literally burn your hands on the bathroom tiles and as no mossie netting or guards on the window we felt a bit like a couple of chickens on slow baste at night.  After three nights we moved on for our last two nights to accommodation by the beach at the very end of Ochheuteal beach (next to Otres) for a change of scene and sunsets on the beach.

Serendipity beach next to Ochheuteal is THE backpackers party zone, hawkers galore, booze soaked tourists and every scam known to man so apart from a look see we avoided like the plague.  So after five beach days we will be heading for Battambang tomorrow (bus willing) for a stop over before Siem Reap, Angkor Wat et al. but for tonight one more beach sunset.
